Rebecca Wilkowski Photography featured in July issue of Angie's List Magazine

I’m happy to announce that the July issue of Angie’s List Magazine is now out, and features both photographs and interview quotes by yours truly (see pages 11 and 15)!

A few months back, the editor of Angie’s List Magazine contacted me due to the very high ratings I’ve received by members of Angie’s List. They asked me to be an “expert” wedding photographer that they could interview on their upcoming article on “nightmare weddings” and how to prevent them. Lots of questions were asked about how to pick a good wedding photographer, what kind of experience to look for, how to judge a wedding portfolio, and how to know if you’re getting ripped off. My most valuable piece of advice (which, sadly, didn’t make the article) was this:

Think of all the money you spend on your wedding: cake, flowers, invitations, wedding party gifts, reception hall, ceremony site, tuxedo, food and cocktails for guests, honeymoon……the list goes on!

But, ask yourself this: after the wedding day is over, what do you have left? The answer is simple: your rings, your dress, and your wedding memories. Hopefully, those memories were captured artfully by a talented wedding photographer.

That being said, the old saying is true: You Get What You Pay For. So, while some wedding magazines recommend allocating 10% of your budget to your wedding photographer, you may want to consider allocating more to ensure your memories are preserved professionally.

Of course, everyone’s priorities are different. But if you value artistic wedding photography, and want to treasure these memories for a lifetime, you may want to consider adjusting your budget to allow for a truly professional and talented wedding photographer.

I think the Angie’s List article was a great read, offering some helpful tips to those about to get married. If you’d like to read it in full, just click here.
